About me!

This is probably the hardest page to write in the whole blog…what “about me” would someone really want to know about? Would I even be that interesting?! Well, here it goes…

My name is Jen and I am 35 years old and living in Dothan, Alabama. “Where’s Dothan?” some of you may be wondering? (and believe me, I was too when my now husband told me we were moving there almost 3 years ago; me from Phoenix; the husband from St. Louis). Dothan (aka L.A. or Lower Alabama) is in the southeast corner of Alabama, pretty close to the Florida border. And let me tell you: the “pretty close” to the Florida border (as in 1.5 hours to the beach) was a HUGE selling piece for me!

So what brought us here? My husband is former military (flew Blackhawks while in the Army) and after he got out he figured he’d go and teach flight school until he figured out what he wants to do when he grows up. He works at Ft. Rucker and this is how we came to be in Dothan.

We’ve been married for over a year now (April 12 2012) and we’ve actually known each other since we were in the 5th grade: we were next door neighbors way back when, lost touch after school, and reconnected <gasp> on Facebook and the rest is history! His name is James, by the way, as I am sure he’ll be making some appearances from time to time in the blog.

I work part-time at Dothan Magazine (our fabulous local magazine) as the assistant to the publisher and I also write the restaurant reviews. I’ve been there since January and I must say, it really is a great job! Before moving I was an adjunct professor at Arizona State University but being a small town, college teaching jobs are hard to come by.

I love love LOVE to cook, which is how the idea of this blog came about: I would spend hours on end, DAILY, cooking through all sorts of cookbooks that I thought, “why not talk about what I’m cooking as well as what is going on with me, my household, my life, and the world in general….all while cooking, whisking, braising away in my little kitchen?! Well, it sounded like a good idea to me at the time, so here we are.

Let me know what you think and especially let me know if you have some awesome recipes!

Bon Appetite!
